How To Make a March/Spectacle

In How To Make a March/Spectacle, Allen Ginsberg uses to strong tone to persuade people on how to make a march. His Writing style really confused me because of how the writing was written. Did you get the main point of march? Do you like his writing style? What where some literary devices used during this literary piece?

  1. In how to make a march/spectacle Allen Ginsbergs piece comes off as extremely sarcastic or maybe even just down right cynical to me. I understood it to an extent. The whole point of this piece is to get people to look. They want to cause a peaceful commotion. How to get people to pay attention to "the cause". But im not sure if he ever states what the cause is but I'm just going to assume its in general terms. Who is marching? just about anyone who wants to. It says grandmothers, children ect. He does mention "Hells angels" a bit. From what i understand they are ill-tempered with a negative mindset. Since the words young people are underlined im going to assume its old vs new generation, perhaps government?

  2. I feel as though after reading Allen Ginsbergs work he comes off as a funny guy but kind of a sarcastic smartass. His writing style made the reading easier because we sort of talk like that today.

  3. In my opinion, Ginsberg's style is not all that confusing. It just takes a little more dissection, or maybe it could just be my own interpretation. Ginsberg writes not in the conventional realms of literature, and for that I admire his work. Much of this piece and of all Ginsberg's work is to raise awareness, and his approach is unconventional, yes, but does it not stick out you? To me this whole piece was about finding a cause any cause, that you believe in and stand up for that cause. To me its as if Ginsberg is preaching a shift from what is accepted and pushing the conventual dogmas about society and our daily lives. Or in other words as Shinelle put it, this clash of old vs. new. Possibly the repressive nature about government?

  4. I did find "How To Make a March/Spectacle" a little confusing but since I am familiar with his writing, it is about a cause that he wants the reader to be aware about. I do think his sarcastic tone helps portray the message he is trying to send. His tone caught my attention so I think that was very effective. From my point of view I believe that Ginsberg is calling out to everyone in this piece, he is not aiming at anyone in particular. But, I can't help but wonder what the cause is.. or maybe it is what we choose it to be?

  5. In " How to make a march/spectacle" BY Allen ginsberg his writing style is pretty straight forward. He is calling for people to or take his message and organize a peaceful march. Also he gives suggestions on how to organize a march or what to bring which i think may be kinda sarcastic. His tips #6 includes bringing certain childrens toys but not firecrackers or balloons. ..

  6. This piece is extremely sarcastic, but that is what helped get the message across. It is about a cause that needs to be addressed and people need to be aware if it. He is trying to reach all kinds and types of people, no one in particular, but the general public.

  7. I found Ginsberg's writing style to be confusing in "How to Make a March/Spectacle". I found it difficult to conclude if he was being sarcastic or not when he starts listing all that you should bring to a march. It I had a difficult time getting the overall message of the writing.

  8. Allen Ginsberg makes sense in his writing. Basically I was not confused during the reading. It is seemed a little bit confusing for readers to understand what a March is and why he wants to make a March? Which way March could be made in? I think Ginsberg borrowed March as a symbol to demonstrate his opinion, find back our real lives. So I definitely agreed with Angel's point about the staff which is really confusing us in this reading. I suggest that we could read it more times to solve the confusion.

  9. "How To Make a March/Spectacle" is a very straight forward piece. He's very to his point and is also sarcastic. His tone and language is also very sarcastic actually, it's like he's making fun of us in a way. He wants to show us how to peacefully march and why we should do it. It's kind of funny because he is showing us what to do in a march and what to bring. Don't we all know what to do or bring in a march? It's kind of obvious so I think that's where you see his smartass side a bit and the humor.

  10. This piece was a bit confusing at first. I also noticed that he was very sarcastic. However as I read on it was evident that, that was his way to get his message through to his readers. His goal was tell the people to join a peaceful march with him. His way of doing so is very unique and it is interesting for the reader if he or she gets passed the point of being confused by his writing style.
